I have been working on this project for over a year now, during the lockdowns I decided to teach myself Unreal and Unity as a way to showcase my work in a virtual Gallery. This project is the result of this learning process.
Any comments or feedback is greatly welcomed and appreciated.
Goals:
- To create an interactive portfolio of my artwork.
- To showcase a selection of my professionally commissioned projects and place them in a virtual space so the viewer can see my work in its intended context.
- To showcase my self-taught development in working with Unreal 5. Environment design, Animation, Blueprint scripting, Level design, UV mapping, and Audio.
To do:
- Title and price all the artworks.
- Develop interactive examination of selected paintings in the Artist Studio section. Add title header when the viewer walks into the space.
- Optimize texture maps and use the new tools in Unreal 5.1 to preload sections of the map for greater efficiency.
- Add an archive room as a separate map, to showcase very early paintings from De Montfort University and the Royal Academy School of Arts.
- Add external links to my website via blueprint - to be shown on a virtual screen with interactive actions.
Bugs/issues:
- Sometimes the Esc and Action keys require two presses to activate.
- The lighting in the drawing room needs to be developed.
- The placement of the interactive painting inspection is not always centered on the screen.
- Lighting needs to be enhanced around the large Foxtons paintings.
